Throwing a baby shower?

If you're reading this, then you probably could use some advice on where to start. There are so many different ideas, themes, and decorations that it can be hard to even get started. But don't worry! We've compiled a list of our favourite baby shower hacks that will make it easy for you to throw an amazing baby shower that makes people go "wow"!

Baby showers are fun events to attend and participate in. But hosting or throwing one? It's a different story! We're pulling back the covers and sharing with you our favourite tips for throwing an amazing baby shower.

Every new mom needs a baby shower. 👶 It's the perfect opportunity to celebrate her pregnancy, meet other moms-to-be and get some great gifts for her little one(s).

But throwing a successful shower isn't as easy as it sounds. There are so many things to consider: Who's invited? What should you serve? How much will all this cost? And, of course, what kind of theme should the party have?

We've got all the answers you need to throw an amazing baby shower — from how to keep your budget in check to how to make sure there's enough food for everyone.

Baby showers may be one of the most special events you'll ever host. They're a time to celebrate the arrival of your new bundle of joy and introduce him or her to your friends and family. Here are some hacks to help you throw an amazing baby shower:

Pick a theme.

Deciding on a theme will help you find suitable invitations, decorations, and food. If you're not sure what kind of theme would suit your tastes, browse through Pinterest or Instagram for inspiration.

A theme helps guests know what kind of gifts they should buy for the mom-to-be. If you’re having an outdoor party, consider having guests bring lawn games or other items that will make the event more fun for everyone. If your family loves music, ask people to bring instruments or create a list of song requests so that everyone can enjoy the party.

Plan ahead.

You probably want to plan your baby shower months in advance, especially if it's going to be a big event with lots of guests. You can start by deciding on the theme (it could be anything from animals to flowers) and choosing décor that matches it. Then, make sure you have time for shopping and crafting.

Choose a date and time that works for everyone involved. 📅 Decide who will host the event and whether you'll do it at someone's home or at a venue like a restaurant or a party hall. Make sure you have enough seating for all your guests — including those who might be travelling from out of town — plus extra chairs in case anyone who didn’t RSVP decides to show up.

If you're hosting at home, make sure there are enough bathrooms so guests can go if they need to during the party. If you're renting space at another location, ask about bathroom availability before booking your reservation; otherwise, you might end up with too many guests on hand!

Make sure there are enough chairs for everyone.

Make sure you have enough seating if there are going to be a lot of people at your baby shower. You don't want anyone standing around awkwardly while everyone else is having fun!

Make a list.

Make sure you have all the items needed for the party — such as plates, cups, napkins, and utensils — plus any decorations or favours that guest will take home with them when they leave.

Make sure there is enough food and drink for everyone who comes to your baby shower as well as enough room for everyone at your venue (and maybe even an overflow area). It’s also good practice to have extra copies of games printed out just in case someone loses theirs during playtime!

Have everything set up before anyone arrives.

You want your guests to feel comfortable when they come over for your party, so setting up everything before they arrive will help keep them happy and relaxed while they wait for the fun to start.

This includes having food ready to go in the oven or on the grill as soon as people arrive so they can take care of themselves while you get everything else ready. It also means having any decorations set up such as balloons or streamers around your house so they don’t have to walk around looking for places where they could hang them up.

Get creative with food.

When it comes to food for your baby shower, there are tons of possibilities — from simple finger foods like cured meats or veggies with dip to elaborate desserts like cupcakes or pies. You can even go beyond traditional sweets by making savoury snacks like quiches or sandwiches.

Just make sure everything is safe for pregnant women and babies! Consider having a food station like the ones listed below that can double as a source of entertainment. 🤤

Cookie decorating

Who doesn't love cookies? They're the perfect snack for any party, and baby showers are no exception. You can make your own cookies or buy them from a bakery or market. Then all you have to do is decorate them with sprinkles, icing and other decorations.

Pizza bar

If there's one thing that everyone loves, it's pizza! And it's also one of the easiest foods to serve at a large event like a baby shower. You can even order pizza through a local restaurant or get frozen pizza from your grocery store and heat it up in the oven or microwave. Just make sure that you have napkins and plates available for guests.

Hot chocolate bar

Another delicious treat for any gathering is hot chocolate! You can make it from scratch using milk and cocoa powder or you could just buy some mixes from the store and set up an area where guests can help themselves to delicious drinks throughout the party

Sundae bar

Make an ice cream sundae bar with toppings that match your theme. This is a great way to get guests involved in making their own sundaes and having a great time doing it! Just set out an array of toppings for people to choose from — chocolate chips, sprinkles, nuts, or fruit — and let them go wild with their own creations. You can even include whipped cream in fun colours like pink or blue for an extra touch of colour (and cuteness).

Think about the mom-to-be.

You should think about the mom-to-be and how to make them feel special in order to plan a successful baby shower. Think about how she would like things done (like what kind of music she likes), as well as any other needs she might have (like if she has any food allergies).

Find out what she likes – you can look at her social media accounts if she has any! If you can find out what kind of things she likes, consider incorporating them into your party plans.

For example, if she loves yoga, consider hiring a yoga instructor to lead some classes during the event or even decorate with yoga props like mats and blocks. If she loves books or reading books aloud as part of her daily routine (especially if she’s an author), consider having bookmarks or bookplates personalized for each guest so they can take home a keepsake from your baby shower too!

Set a budget.

Make sure that you're not spending too much money on decorations or other items for your event. 💰 This is not only going to be stressful on your wallet but also on your overall budget as well. You want everything to be perfect but it's important to remember that these events usually come with high costs attached to them. If you do want something extravagant then make sure that it is something that will be used again in the future such as a diaper cake or even just balloons! We have a list of 8 tips that can help you save money on your wedding but most of them can also be applied to showers. Check the post out here.

Make RSVPing easy.

Invite guests early — at least two weeks in advance — and make sure they RSVP by a certain date so you know how many guests to expect. You can also make it easier for your guests to RSVP and find out event details by going digital with your invitations. 💻

It's okay if you don't have everything covered! Don't feel like everything has to go perfectly — it's better if it doesn't! If something goes wrong at your baby shower, just laugh and move on with the event.
